Mission District’s San Francisco Police Department Officers and Residents Share Ideas and Build Community over Local Burritos

  • April 27, 2026
  • Community Events, Mission Station

On April 15, the San Francisco Police Community Foundation and the San Francisco Police Department’s Mission Station handed out tickets to neighbors, inviting them to share complimentary burritos (chicken, veggie, and steak!) at Tio Chilo’s on 24th Street.

Mission District residents chatted with officers about neighborhood concerns, shared priorities, and the day-to-day fabric of life in one of San Francisco’s most vibrant corridors. The conversations happened at a restaurant that’s been feeding this community for more than 20 years.

A family-owned business, Tio Chilo’s has been creating culinary memories for over 20 years while giving back to the community, including handing out food during the peak of the COVID pandemic. Food, for them, has always been about more than a meal. And last Tuesday confirmed that for the neighborhood, too.

Events like Burritos and Badges, Coffee with a Cop, and National Night Out help build trust and communication. When residents and officers know each other by name, that’s when neighborhoods get stronger.

The San Francisco Police Community Foundation helps bring together businesses, nonprofits, and San Franciscans across the city to privately fund exactly this kind of work: the programs, relationships, and resources that public budgets can’t always reach.
