Nearly 550 people filled Mission Bay Kids Park on Wednesday, October 21, for Lil’ Ones Halloween, a pumpkin and candy giveaway for kids 13 and younger, co-hosted by the San Francisco Police Department’s (SFPD) Southern Station.
Thanks to your support, we provided pumpkins, goodie bags, and event supplies.
We were also joined by SFPD horses, the University of California, San Francisco Police Department, San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, the Homeland Security Investigations field office, and ALERT Volunteers. McGruff the Crime Dog made the rounds, and every child left with a goodie bag: candy, pretzels, stickers, temporary tattoos, coloring books, crayons, and a pumpkin to carry home.
“Our annual Halloween Pumpkin Giveaway has been a highly anticipated event for years, bringing together families and children in our community,” Officer Edcel Suarez said. “Our officers look forward to working this event, and they love seeing the kids smile and enjoy this family event.”
The Southern District covers neighborhoods like South of Market, the Embarcadero, China Basin, Mission Bay, Treasure Island, and Yerba Buena Island, and it moved into the Public Safety Building at 1251 3rd Street in 2015. Mission Bay Kids Park is a five-minute walk away, and Southern Station also hosted its National Night Out block party there in August 2026.
“Nearly 550 neighbors came to a park on a Wednesday afternoon to meet each other, community leaders, and the officers who keep their neighborhood safe,” said Ixchel Acosta, Executive Director of the San Francisco Police Community Foundation. “This is exactly what we mean when we talk about community. Kids meeting their officers, parents meeting each other, and a station that feels like part of the neighborhood. We’ll invest in that every chance we get.”
