Throughout May, the San Francisco Police Community Foundation (SFPCF) and Frontline Builders delivered nearly 36,000 wellness items, valued at roughly $112,000, to San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officers across the city.Â
The donations, consisting of food, beverages, and personal care products from companies across the country, arrived at SFPD stations as a direct thank-you to the people who show up for San Francisco every day.Â
The effort was part of Frontline Worker Appreciation Month, a national campaign Frontline Builders created to honor the people who hold communities together. To date, they have donated more than 27+ million products, supported over 1,400 frontline organizations, and built a network of more than 130 companies. San Francisco was one of ten cities Frontline Builders supported during the month, and it served as one of the campaign’s closing events.Â
Frontline Builders made May a full month, not a single week, on purpose. Nurses Week, Police Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, EMS Week, Hospital Week, and Mental Health Awareness Month all land in May. Rather than treat each as a separate moment, the campaign honors what connects them.Â
“Our officers spend their days showing up for the residents of San Francisco,” said Ixchel Acosta, Executive Director of the San Francisco Police Community Foundation. “This month, we got to show up for them. When we invest in the people who serve our neighborhoods, we strengthen the relationship between officers and residents that makes San Francisco safer for everyone.”
Because May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, the campaign carried a second message alongside the gratitude. The work of serving a community takes a real toll, and supporting the people who do it means paying attention to their well-being, not only their workload. Frontline Builders centers the personal stories of frontline workers and pairs them with mental health resources.Â
“For us, gratitude is where this starts, not where it ends,” said Jason Lalak, Director,, Frontline Builders. “Recognizing these workers is the entry point. The real work is humanizing them, advocating for them, and making sure they have what they need to keep showing up, including support for their mental health.”
None of this reaches an officer without the companies that gave, including LMNT, Neuro Gum, Â Mando, and DaoHer Beverage. Their products and belief that the people on the front lines deserve care made the month possible.
The San Francisco Police Community Foundation partners on work like this because supporting officers and strengthening the community are the same project. When the people who serve San Francisco feel seen and cared for, they bring more of themselves to the neighborhoods they serve.Â
