Behind every successful community initiative are dedicated individuals who believe in making a difference.
The San Francisco Police Community Foundation (SFPCF) brings together neighborhood leaders, law enforcement, nonprofit organizations, and business leaders united by a shared commitment to public safety through community-building partnerships.
Community Leaders Making It Happen
Our board represents the diversity that makes San Francisco strong:
- Derick Brown is the Chief Advancement and Strategic Partnerships Officer at the YMCA of Greater San Francisco. He is responsible for designing and driving a comprehensive strategy that unites philanthropy, strategic partnerships, brand advancement, and innovation.
- Yoyo Chan is entering her fifth season with the Warriors and her third as Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs. In this role, she oversees the Warriors’ and Chase Center’s social responsibility efforts, community programs, and partnerships.
- Rudy Corpuz is the Executive Director of United Playaz, a longstanding San Francisco-based organization that focuses on violence prevention and youth development, which he founded in 1994. United Playaz provides a comprehensive range of services to prepare vulnerable youth for higher education, employment, and healthy living within a safe, nurturing, and collaborative environment.
- Sunny Schwartz is a nationally recognized expert in criminal justice reform and a pioneer in restorative justice. She is also the Founder of Five Keys Schools and Programs, a statewide nonprofit that has offered education, vocational training, therapeutic programs, and housing to incarcerated individuals and those newly released since 2003.
- Marisa Rodriguez is Executive Director at Union Square Alliance, serving members and creating a high-quality visitor experience by managing and activating public spaces, attracting new investment, and advocating for the District’s future success.
Our CEO, Ixchel Acosta, is a dedicated advocate for community development and small businesses. She has actively contributed to community engagement through her time with Avenue Greenlight, the Clement Street Merchants Association, and PTA boards, motivated by her passion for grassroots organizing and community empowerment.
You’ll often find Ixchel at community events across the city, from panel discussions on public safety to neighborhood forums where residents and officers come together to address local concerns. Her approach embodies the Foundation’s philosophy: show up, listen, and build bridges.
SFPCF was launched with a transformative $1 million gift from Chris Larsen, co-founder of the cryptocurrency company Ripple and a longtime advocate for public safety in San Francisco. Larsen’s vision is straightforward: cut through bureaucratic red tape to quickly deliver resources that bring police and communities together.
Rather than dictating how the money should be spent, Larsen has taken a hands-off approach, allocating $100,000 to each of the city’s 10 police district stations to address their unique neighborhood needs. He hopes this proof of concept will inspire other philanthropists and businesses to join in supporting community-centered public safety initiatives across San Francisco.
